When I decided to learn to paint with watercolors, it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with this wonderful, exciting medium! I began by taking lessons from Tim Stevenson (to whom I am extremely grateful) in Florence, AL and felt that watercolors and I were a match made in heaven. Captivated by the flora and fauna of my surroundings, I endeavor to depict the beauty that I witness every day on my 30 acres in Tuscumbia, AL. I am especially drawn to the uniqueness of early morning and late afternoon light and try to incorporate this special lighting into my paintings. Facing the challenge of producing beautiful artwork brings me a great sense of accomplishment and joy as I continue to paint and grow.
Occupied establishing her career as a commercial pilot, Sophie didn’t start painting until 2011. She started taking lessons with watercolor/oil artist Tim Stevenson in Florence, Alabama and learned many useful techniques working with watercolors. Her preferred style is realism. She became a member of the Watercolor Society of Alabama in 2016 and after having several works accepted for various shows, she is now a juried member.
